Context Statement

This is a sense-of-place article that aims to give readers a view of Big Creek Park, which starts in Roswell, GA. The journey to look more deeply into this place I often frequent has helped me appreciate many details I often miss.

With a natural place like this, where specific efforts to preserve the treeline but little efforts to preserve the creeks have been made, meant less interesting landmarks in the area, and so the pictures I have been able to procure had to be creative, i.e., from interesting angles and at different times of day and weather conditions.

I have reached out to the Roswell City Parks Administration for the history and efforts behind making this park part of the community, but have failed at every turn. The Parks department has been unresponsive to my multiple requests for information, so the cycling article had to rely on secondary sources listed below.

This entire article has been divided into three parts: The first is my feelings on the park, encapsulated in a poem that becomes a navigation point to the other parts of the article. The second is a flash fiction conceived as an article, written from the perspective of a deer, urging other deer to be careful and mindful of the erosion of the lifestyle they have grown accustomed to. The third is an article focused on the bicycling culture at The Big Creek park.
